BE Brilliant

A persuasive letter-writing contest in which students ask today's leaders to consider how their decisions are shaping the world of tomorrow.

Opportunity to win a $1,000 Scholarship

The Discover Brilliant International Conference and Expo invites students to enter a contest about Sustainability and the Future. Sustainability is generating more value with less negative impact in the decisions we make.

Three competition levels are open to students: Level I for grades 6 through 8; Level II for grades 9 through 12, and Level III for students enrolled in post-secondary schools (community colleges, junior colleges, technical schools or universities).

To enter, students must write a 600- to 1000- word persuasive letter to business or government leaders that convinces them to consider the long-term impact on the planet when making product, service or policy decisions.

Sample topics include:

The contest is open to students in three categories throughout the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to a 2- or 4- year institution of their choice.

Winners and their families will also receive passes to the Discover Brilliant International Conference and Expo held in Seattle, Washington September 17-19, 2007. They will receive their awards at the September 18th Gala Awards Ceremony where students will serve as awards presenters for the Brilliant Awards and have excerpts of their essays shared during the ceremony.
