Focusing on building a legacy, this inspirational event features Brilliant Award winners that exemplify Brilliant Businesses--those that are economically valuable, environmentally sound and more secure. Students representing the next generation present the awards and share their letters to business and government leaders about what they think should be driving decisions to ensure their future. The gala is a chance to spotlight sponsors’ commitment to building the legacy and network with others who care about the future of our kids, our communities and our planet.

On the evening of September 18, 2007, the Green Tie Gala & Brilliant Awards brought together individuals, public, private and non-profit organizations who recognize the potential to build a legacy of more value with less impact in the choices we make.

We celebrated Brilliant approaches in buildings, business, utilities, transportation and communities and enjoyed provocative thoughts by today’s pioneers and tomorrow’s leaders.

The Brilliant Awards
We celebrated solutions that are economically valuable, environmentally sound, and more secure by glimping into the future of sustainability from award winners in Building, Business, Utility, Community and Transportation Categories.

Inspirational Words from Tomorrow’s Leaders

We were inspired to action by the insights of the young leaders who need us to get things right. Winners of the Generation BE Foundation essay contest shared their words of wisdom to the business and government leaders of today on how to build a legacy for their generation.

And from Those Leaving a Legacy
Sesh Velamoor, Deputy Director of Foundation for the Future talked about world-wide efforts to develop knowledge in order to assist society into moving toward a sustainable future. The Foundation for the Future was established with the mission to increase and diffuse knowledge concerning the long-term future of humanity.

A Few Laughs...
To add a little humor to the evening, Yoram Bauman, PhD in environmental economics, professor at University of Washington and the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and well-known “stand-up economist” looked at sustainability and leaving a legacy from a lighter viewpoint.

CELEBRITY HOST- John Bruce, Designer-Ecozone Project

AWARD SPONSOR & CREATOR

We we honored to work with Canlis Glass for the creation of our Brilliant Awards. Through their generous sponsorship, partnership and vision, J.P. and Leigh created truly special and unique awards for our Brilliant Awards winners.

Jean-Pierre Canlis Glass—now known as Canlis Glass—was established in 1996, following years of technical and conceptual development. J.P. Canlis' talent and true calling emerged early in life through the fine art of glassblowing. Today, he and his wife, Leigh, direct-sell Canlis Glass pieces to avid collectors from their Seattle-based gallery and cold shop.

J.P. and Leigh are a couple molded together by interests entwined in art, beauty and passion. The two met in 1997 while working for blown glass environmental art pioneer, Dale Chihuly, in Seattle. While Leigh focused on Chihuly sales and marketing, J.P. blew glass in the famous Chihuly hot shop. They developed a friendship based on mutual recognition and respect for one another's abilities.

Artist statement:

"Simplicity and completion are the most important elements of my work. Anyone can make something simple seem complex; it is taking the complex and translating it into the simplest form that inspires me. I want the viewer to walk away settled, feeling the art has a sense of completion."
