This year, the Generation BE Foundation sponsored a regional essay writing contest. Students in middle school through college were asked to write a persuasive letter asking today's leaders to consider how their decisions are shaping the world of tomorrow.

Winners of this esay contest received a $1,000 scholarship and served as awards presenters at the Green Tie Gala & Awards Ceremony on the evening of September 18, 2007.

2007 BE BRILLIANT WINNERS

Middle School Winner

Andrew Nelson is an 8th grader in the Bellevue School District's PRISM program for gifted and talented children at ODLE Middle School. He enjoys music and playing the alto saxophone. Andrew aspires to practice law and eventually become a Supreme Court Justice.

High School Winner

Kate Catlin is a 17-year old Senior at Redmond High School. She is currently serving as Editor of the Yearbook, President of the Environmental Club, and a Global Citizen Corps Leader. Kate hopes to pursue a double major in Environmental Studies in college next year.

College Winner

Lauren Alder, 20 years old, is a Junior Environmental Studies/Politics major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She is currently enrolled in a field studies program in Costa Rica, studying sustainable development.
